The Weeks in Review: 07.27.2008
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog : Ah, where do I start? My love for all things Joss Whedon? My love for all things Joss Whedon? My love for… haha, okay, I’ll stop. But really, it’s great. Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion (as supervillain and superhero respectively) are perfect. The script is perfect (The hammer is my penis, LOL.) The songs are perfect. The ending is perfect (no matter what other people say). Just watch it if you can…at the very least, you’ll be entertained for an hour.
Watchmen Trailer : obsessing over this one. it looks…perfect. of course I wouldn’t call Zak Snyder visionary because his “visions” aren’t really his own (300 was Frank Miller’s and this is Alan Moore’s and he’s just copying their visions into a different medium. he’s doing it well, but it’s still copying…anyway) and there’s still waaaay to much slow motion going on (i’m not sure if it’s just for the trailer or for the movie itself, we’ll see) but still love love love. my only gripe…why isn’t matthew goode (ozymandias) as hot as he should be?
Really, why?
The Dark Knight : so ayn is not a loser anymore. haha. anyway, liked it. not as much as some people (aka the THE DARK KNIGHT IS THE GREATEST FILM EVER MADE crowd) but I like it. Some parts were awesome (Batman in motorcycle vs. 18 wheeler truck comes to mind) and Heath Ledger as The Joker is, like I have to say it, awesome (my favorite Joker to Batman line: “You complete me.” ahahahaha. well, it’s true) . Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Two-Face Dent is amazing. I like Michael Caine’s Alfred and Morgan Freeman’s Laurence Fox and you all know my undying love for Gary Oldman. What i didn’t like (or love at least) is Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Rachel Dawes and for some reason I’m slightly turned off by Christian Bale’s Batman (I love him as Bruce Wayne though. that scene where he saves that guy and pretends to be speeding…lol) My dislike for Rachel i think is because she sorely needs character…more than the “hero’s girlfriend” role given to her (where’s Catwoman when you need her? she’d better be in the next film, Nolan, and she’d better be AWESOME.) and Batman…well, I know the voice is supposed to be terrifying but it just ends up being funny most of the time because it sounded like Batman has a lisp. and for some reason, when Batman wasn’t speeding in a Batmobile/cycle he seemed slow…heavy even…even after he gets his new suit. I’m not sure it was Nolan’s intention (you know, to fit the more “real” Batman image) or just not very good direction. oh, and I totally rolled my eyes at that ending (insert totally expected corny monologue with totally expected epic scoring here)
Re: the social experiment…well, somebody’s very optimistic. it reminds me of a less optimistic Doctor Who episode, Midnight (one of the best of the show and certainly my favorite from series 4). watch that, for more.
Current Addictions: websites ihasatardis (for my Doctor Who withdrawal stage) and Cover Snark at Smart Bitches (well, because…)
Looking Forward To: Watchmen, duh. and the HBO series True Blood (by Six Feet Under Creator Alan Ball) about a small town psychic and her vampire would-be-lover (what is it about TV shows and vampires recently?) which I’m excited for because of Stephen Moyer. I loved him in Prince Valiant and then in Princess of Thieves and I’ve always wanted to see more of him and now I can. yay!
…i’ll get to it this weekend (hopefully) in the meantime here’s something for the lolz:

bwahahahaha…i never knew batman was so gay…haha. don’t worry batman, gay or not, you’re still my favorite superhero.
speaking of gay superheroes…rumors are flying that John Barrowman is being considered to play Captain America. many people are already complaining that a gay man can’t play a straight role (ridiculous) or that a gay man shouldn’t be allowed to play a superhero because he’s not a good role model (ridiculous…batman isn’t even a good role model, when you think of it.) Not that I’m particularly interested in seeing John as Captain America (well, i’m always interested in John but i’m not really that interested in Captain America) but stop the sexual discrimination, people!
Where’s Neil?

do you see him? of course you do.
btw, this is the 20th Anniversary Sandman Poster.
1. Go here. The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2. Go here. The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
If you want to do this again, you’ll hit refresh to generate new quotes, because clicking the quotes link again will just give you the same quotes over and over again.
3. Go here. Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4. Go here. The first ten links you end up in (minus the .com’s) are your 10 song titles.
2. You Were Never Prepared [hmmm...i like it.]
3.
[err...aaaah. I hate insects. well, at least it's not a cockroach. and people will think my "band name" means grasshopper when it's actually a plant. maybe grasshoppers eat that plant. that would be a cool coincidence.]
