70 Favorite Songs: 62. Taking Pictures

When I take a picture of the city it disappears
It’s only a photograph the city is gone
The places I go are never there

Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be
I can only picture the disappearing world when you touch me

He brought me the air of Paris in a bottle
The record caught the air of London nineteen sixty-five
The places I go are never there

Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be
I can only picture the disappearing world when you touch me
When you touch me

Composer/Performer: Sam Phillips

First Heard In: Gilmore Girls season 6 finale
Why I Love It: It was just the perfect ending to a not-so-perfect ending (Luke-Lorelai break-up) as you’ll see in the clip above. Aside from that, she captures the feeling of the temporary-ness (haha, sorry can’t think of the proper word right now) of everything and how that one person can make everything that’s abstract seem concrete again. Now, if only…haha.
